Sergey Alexeev Joins UFI Presidential Trio

Global exhibition association UFI has appointed Sergey Alexeev to the role of incoming president, effective from November 2014.

At the 81st UFI Congress to be held in Bogota, Colombia on 29 October – 1 November, the UFI presidential trio will consist of president Andrйs Lopez-Valderrama (president Corferias, Colombia), outgoing president Renaud Hamaide (CEO of both Comexposium and Viparis, France) and Sergey Alexeev (ExpoForum-International, Russian Federation).

“Joining the UFI Presidential Trio is a reflection of the prospects and professionalism of the Russian exhibition industry,” said Alexeev. “Over the past 20 years Russia has taken its place among the world’s exhibition leaders. Today we play a key role in supporting the development of the Russian economy as a major partner in the global economy.”

Alexeev is a board member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, chairman of the Council of St Petersburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Honorary Consul General of the Republic of the Philippines in St Petersburg.

He has been the elected president of the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs (RUEF) since 1991, and is chairman of the Exhibition Committee of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

Alexeev has also been the chair of the European Regional Chapter of UFI since 2008, a member of the UFI board of directors and a Vice President of the UFI Executive Committee.

Renaud Hamaide, current UFI President, welcomed the arrival of Alexeev.

“Sergey brings 30 years of exhibition related experience to our UFI President’s trio. As the first Russian UFI President, he will certainly provide valuable insights for the development of UFI programmes in this country.”

The association’s presidential term builds on a three-year cycle - one year as incoming-president, and one year as immediate past-president.

The Presidential Trio makes possible a rapid and geographically varied rotation at the head of UFI, claims the association.

Since the last UFI Congress in November 2013, UFI has welcomed 15 new organisations into the association, bringing the current membership total to 650 in 83 countries.
